BOOK GROUP SERVICE @ YOUR LIBRARY
The library can arrange to have copies of book group selections available for pickup by group members at the Circulation Desk. You tell us how many copies you need, when you would like to pick them up, and when you would like to bring them back. We’ll have them ready for you.
We need at least two weeks notice for reliable service; under ideal conditions, books can be supplied in one week. Advance notice makes it easier to plan ahead, so if your group has a list of titles for upcoming meetings, by all means submit your requests for future meetings as early as you like. The amount of time you can keep the books depends on your group’s schedule. Usually, we set the return date to the Saturday after your meeting – but you can choose any day that works for you. A four week loan is typical, but we can stretch it six or eight weeks if your group needs more time.
Group members will need a valid Minuteman library card in order to check out a book group book. If you don’t already have a card, bring ID with your current address on your first visit to the library – a driver’s license is ideal. It usually takes five minutes or less to sign up for a card.
You can request books for a group in the way that’s most convenient for you:
- send an email to frkill@minlib.net
- fill in a paper form at the Circulation Desk
- call the Circulation Desk during regular library hours:
508 520-4940 ext. 1
- fill in an online form on the library web page:
When you request a book group book, please include the following information:
- name of book group (there are currently more than 20 active book groups; each group must have a name so we can tell them apart!)
- name of contact person with email address or phone number
- title of book
- author of book
- number of copies needed
- pickup date
- return date
- any special requests (large print copy, audiobook copy, etc.)
The library makes every effort to accommodate book group requests, but sometimes we do have to say no. We can’t always supply enough copies of the latest best sellers. However, keep in mind that a book in high demand now may become available in few months’ time. The library may also consider purchasing extra copies in order to supply high demand items for book groups. These decisions are made on a case by case basis, depending factors such as the availability of funds and the popularity of the book. When in doubt, please ask!
