Minutes

Meeting was opened at 6:55 PM.
  • Minutes from September 9, 2009 meeting. Approved without further discussion, 3-0.
  • Review action items:
  • Automated trash pro-con list (Steve)
  • Partially complete. Steve got the previously circulated list formatted in a Word doc. Gene will edit that document with any additional items he has.
  • Get contact names for single-stream/automated program in Norwood, Mansfield (forget Holden – these two towns are closer and more similar to Franklin).
  • Chris White forwarded names of Mansfield and Norwood contacts after the October meeting. Committee now needs to figure out what to do with them.
  • Compare old vs. new trash/recycling spreadsheet; prepare to discuss and recommend any change to Chris White.
  • Stan pointed out some columns were unaligned; Chris White took the info for improvement. Further changes and improvements will probably be made after the July 2010 new solid waste contract begins.
  • Gene: Request an update on how recycling is going at town fields.
  • Gene visited most of the fields. The trash/recycling situation has improved but town has not implemented all of committee’s suggestions. In particular, putting trash and recycling together at/near entrance.
  • Gene: Send DPW our recommendation to have fall yard pick-up days: 2 in November, 1 in December, 2 weeks between them.
  • Done.
  • Gene: Ask Jeff Nutting about appointing Timm Darcey as an alternate member on the committee.
  • Jeff recommended that we wait until the committee’s term expires (June 30, 2010) and address committee membership issues then.
  • Chris White showed a presentation made earlier to Jeff Nutting regarding the choices Franklin has regarding the solid waste contract coming up for July 2010. Some suggestions were made for clarifications.
Meeting closed at 8:20 PM.
