Prohibition of Mercury Containing Products in the Trash
The "Massachusetts Management Act" was signed into law July 2006 and as of May 1, 2008 this law BANS the disposal of products containing mercury in the trash.
These items may contain mercury:
Basal thermometers |
Barometers |
Thermostats |
Flow meters |
Hydrometers |
Hygrometers and psychrometers |
Manometers |
Pyrometers |
Sphygmomanometers |
Esophageal dilators, bourgie tubes, and gastrointenstinal tubes |

The Board of Health Office at the Municipal Building
The DPW Administration Building
The Beaver Street Recycling Center
In addition, all flourescent light bulbs, including CFLs also contain mercury! They are only collected at the Beaver Street Recycling Center.
